The original of this
picture is a very faded photo cut out to fit an
oval frame, 2" across. One the back it bears
the words, "Robert William Buss, August 1874" - in his own hand.
The print was processed by J V Cobb,
Chemist and Photographer, Hythe. |

This is the grand old man of our
section of the Buss family. He is known as an artist -
the one who had an abortive sortie into illustrating
Pickwick Papers for Charles Dickens - and as the father
of Frances Mary Buss, the Founder of the North London
Collegiate School. Robert Willam Buss has been
extensively noted and quoted but his full biography has
never yet been written. This is my task. I probably have
as much material about him as there is to know - though
the search for more continues.
These links will now take you into the beginning of
this web-based biography.
