Centaur, Thy Sons Before Thee

There have been at least two versions of the School Song. The first was in use during the time of Headmaster Horace Hainsworth. Some time after G. B. Swaine became Head, he wrote a new song.

You should hear the music shortly after you open this page. It takes a while to download.

The School Song
Written and composed by Boss Swaine

Centaur, thy sons before thee proudly stand,
Gladly for thee uniting heart and hand.
Thine is the name that binds our mighty throng;
Thee do we honour in triumphal song.
Those who have gone before us still here in memory dwell
Echoing that youthful chorus to thee we love so well.
Centaur, Thy sons will ever cherish thee;
God bless and keep thee through the years to be.

Swift, swift and sure we tread life's widening way,
Eager our eyes towards the dawning day.
Onward we go, our manhood* tasks to find,
Gay and courageous and, content in mind.
Yet shall our lives, grown olden, with many a changing year,
Be wreathed with memories golden, of happy friendships here.
Centaur, forever shall we cherish thee,
God bless and keep thee through the years to be.

Here is GB's first draft of the music!!

 * The original word "manhood" was later changed to "destined" -  Derek Jones.
