1939 Evacuation with Mr. Hainsworth
This amazing picture comes to us from Richard Poyser:

"I have managed to unearth this photograph showing the Boss and Moggie (Vic Morris)  taken at the beginning of September 1939, to which the item in The Centaur of December refers. In case there is any doubt the Boss is wearing the trilby! Morris is to the left." - June 3rd, 2005

The caps are the same as in our virtual museum, though the badge is now embroidered on.

WHEN I WAS EVACUATED.

It was the first Sunday morning in September when I awoke all excited, for my two brothers and I were going to be evacuated.

When we had breakfasted, all haste was made for our school at Abbey Street where we were to meet. We then all had to walk to St. Andrew's for the bus in which we were going to be evacuated. The twenty-four of us went on the bottom of the Trent bus, while the Parkfield Cedars girls were on top ...
