SPORTSMAN BRIAN WAS
INSPIRATION TO US ALL

All Old Centaurs will mourn the death of Brian Ottewell, one of the greatest sportsmen of his day and an inspirational figure throughout his school years.

Brian, formerly of Lord Street, Allenton, died suddenly at the age of 72 - just four weeks before the reunion and his passing leaves a huge gap in the ranks of the Old Centaurs.

His qualities of leadership, his enthusiasm, his driving ambition and his unabashed conviction that his chums were touched by greatness lifted us all.

He won many honours, both on and off the sporting field. He was captain of the school football team, house captain of the Olympians, a prefect and a member of the award-winning Bromham Shield swimming team.

He left school in 1949 to begin 40 years' service with Rolls-Royce. He co-ordinated the Chinese Spey 202 contract and spent two years in Bucharest, working on the contract, with Turbo Mechanica. His career climaxed when he was appointed to administer R-R product support services' representatives worldwide. He retired in 1991, still with a passion for sport, and took up flat green bowls as a player, umpire and competitions' organiser.

Brian, who married former Homelands School girl Sylvia Churchman in 1959, leaves a widow, daughter and son. He was a devoted husband and father and cared for his wife for many years at their home in Bramcote when she suffered a stroke.
